Donate to the Jersey City Equine Empowerment Program
These are students from Jersey City. When we started our pilot Empowerment Program where we brought Michelangelo and Alexander to their school every month to learn about horses and all aspects of horsemanship, these students did not know each other well. They were not friends. They were quiet, subdued, self-protective. Some acted out, were reactive in different situations, did not feel good about themselves, did not trust. The changes in these students were UNBELIEVABLE. All from interacting and working with horses. They became confident, patient, connected, formed relationships with the horses and each other, learned new skills, opened up ... according to their families, teachers, other students, and themselves, were positively affected in all areas of their lives. Because of its therapeutic value and because of the desire of so many for it to happen, I wanted to continue this program this school year and extend it to all of the students in the CHOICES Program in Jersey City. I was unable to bring it back to the school system because of lack of funding. In order to provide a program like this, which would mean bringing it to 50 students for 2 hours every month of the school year, bringing programs to local facilities once a year (such as a local nursing home) where the students would run the program, and bringing all 50 students to our farm once a year (probably in multiple groups) would cost $25,000. That may sound like a lot; however that includes ALL that goes into such a program ... a 2-hour session is 10 hours of work on my end. There are all of the expenses of horse care ... feed, vet, farrier, etc. There is insurance. There is training ... etc. etc. However to change lives, to empower in so many positive ways, to bring a program that connects on so many levels to 50 young people ... is $500 per child for an entire year that much? PLEASE HELP us do this! PLEASE!!!
Sponsor an Equine Therapy Visit to a Facility - $250
The cost for a one-hour visit with one of our miniature horses to a nursing home, assisted living facility, group home, treatment facility, school, or activity involving individuals with special needs.
Our horses have brought smiles to individuals in memory care units who have not smiled in months, joy to patients in hospice care, words to seniors and children who have not spoken in months or ever. They have been a reason for people to speak, to take steps, to interact, to tell stories from their childhood. They have relieved stress, loneliness, insecurity, and depression. And they have assuaged fears and been a source of connection, empowerment and self-confidence. Your donation will enable one of these highly therapeutic visits!
